If you want a day pass pool in Palm Springs, the city's public swim center sells daily admission, and the local surf park sells admission that includes a lazy river. Does The Muse sell a pool day pass?

No, and that's on purpose. The Muse is a nine-suite hotel built around one courtyard pool and a six-person hot tub. Guests book here for a calm pool with nobody else's party on it, so we keep it for the people sleeping here.

The good news is that one night gets you everything a day pass would, plus a bed. A suite booking comes with the pool, the hot tub, the pergola swings and the outdoor fireplace for your stay, along with grab-and-go breakfast from Aspen Mills, parking and Wi-Fi.

• Palm Springs Swim Center. The city-run pool at Sunrise Park has drop-in public hours with daily admission for residents and non-residents. It's a real swimming pool rather than a lounge scene, so bring goggles. Check the City of Palm Springs website for current hours before you go.

• Palm Springs Surf Club. A wave park with a lazy river and water slides. General admission covers the lazy river and slides. Check its website for open dates and current pricing.

• Day-pass booking apps. Several apps sell day access to hotel and resort pools around the Coachella Valley. Inventory changes by season, weekends sell out first and fees get added at checkout, so read the fine print.

Whatever you pick, go early on summer days. Afternoons often top 100 degrees, and the shade disappears fast.

Not as a day pass, but yes as a stay. A buyout books all nine suites and nine bathrooms for up to 22 overnight guests, and the pool, hot tub, outdoor fireplace, swings and BBQ grill become private to your group. Every overnight guest counts toward the 22.
