How far is Palm Springs from the Coachella festival?

The Empire Polo Club, where Coachella happens, is in Indio at the east end of the Coachella Valley. From Palm Springs, the fastest route is I-10 east, then surface streets into the festival's parking and drop-off areas. CA-111 runs through Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert and La Quinta on the way, which is pretty but slower, with plenty of stoplights.

How do the Coachella shuttle buses work from Palm Springs?

The festival runs an official shuttle with stops across the valley, usually including Palm Springs. You buy a shuttle pass for the weekend, either on its own or bundled with your festival pass, and ride as often as you want. For 2027, the festival announced the shuttle pass at $150 for round-trip service from participating stops.

Buses drop you near the gates, so there's no parking lot hike and nobody has to be the designated driver. The tradeoff is the line at the end of the night. Leave a little before the headliner wraps, or hang back and let the first wave clear.

Should you drive from Palm Springs to Coachella?

Driving gives you the most freedom: your own schedule, room for chairs and sunscreen, and a cooler waiting in the trunk. It's also the most work. Festival parking lots are huge, and getting out after the last set can take as long as the drive itself.

• Know your parking pass. General parking has typically been included with festival passes, with closer preferred parking sold separately. Confirm the current options on the festival site.

• Pin your car. Drop a pin and screenshot your row. Every lot looks the same at 1AM.

• Pick a sober driver early. Decide in the group chat before anyone opens a seltzer.

• Keep water in the car. The wait to exit the lot is real.

Is Uber or Lyft a good way to get to Coachella?

Rideshare is the easiest door-to-door option for couples and small groups. The festival sets up a dedicated rideshare drop-off and pickup area. Getting there in the afternoon is usually smooth. Getting home is where it gets expensive, since surge pricing hits as soon as the headliner ends.

• Time your exit. Leave before the final set ends, or wait about an hour after.

• Split the fare in the app. Nobody chases a Venmo request on Monday.

• Check the plate. Match the car, plate and driver photo before you get in.

• Set a meeting spot. Cell service gets spotty with that many phones in one field.

When should you leave Palm Springs for Coachella?

Traffic into the festival builds through the afternoon and peaks in the late afternoon and early evening. Leave early, around lunchtime, if you want the daytime sets and an easy drive. Leave after dinner if you're only there for the headliners.
