With Thanksgiving around the corner, we’re taking time to reflect on gratitude, resilience, and growth. This November, we’re honored to introduce Donna as our Muse of the Month. Her story is one of courage, love, and dedication—a story that beautifully embodies the spirit of Thanksgiving. Moving from the Philippines to Switzerland, raising her young son as a single mom, and dedicating herself as a virtual assistant for The Muse Hotel, Donna shows us how gratitude can guide us through life’s changes and help us find fulfillment.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your career, and what inspires you?

I’m Donna, and I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work virtually for Everly Vacation Homes for the past two years. In my role, I manage The Muse Hotel and our Airbnb properties’ operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. I began as a marketing specialist with the company and have progressed into my current role, managing the operations and guest communications team. It’s been an amazing journey of personal and professional growth.

Originally from the Philippines, I took a leap of faith and moved to Switzerland about a year into my role. It was a big change for me—both personally and professionally. As a single mom by choice, raising my energetic 3-year-old son is my greatest joy and what truly inspires me every day. Every decision I make, both at work and at home, is driven by my desire to create a bright future for him. The flexibility of remote work allows me to be there for him while continuing to thrive in my career, and I’m so proud of that balance.

I feel incredibly fortunate to work with a diverse global team made up of fellow VAs from the Philippines and Africa, alongside Everly and the onsite staff at The Muse Hotel in the United States. Even though we’re separated by miles, we’ve formed a close-knit and supportive team. It’s taught me that connection, teamwork, and trust can transcend borders, reminding me of the strength we can find in collaboration, no matter where we are.

Ultimately, my journey has shown me that resilience and love can carry us through life’s challenges. My son is my biggest inspiration—he reminds me every day of what truly matters. I’m committed to building a life filled with joy and purpose, and I have the confidence that I can thrive in all aspects of my life.

What are your top three passions outside of work?

First and foremost, my son is my greatest passion! Watching him grow and discover the world brings me so much happiness. I’m also passionate about spending my days off exploring new places, curling up with a good book, sipping coffee, and trying new foods. These simple pleasures not only help me unwind but also open my eyes to new perspectives.Lastly, I love capturing moments through photos and videos. I enjoy sharing them online, almost like I’m an influencer! Looking back at my Facebook and Instagram memories gives me joy, especially on challenging days. They serve as a beautiful reminder that there are always brighter days ahead and help me stay positive when I need it most.

What’s one quirky or unexpected thing about you that most people don’t know?

Most people might be surprised to learn that I’m quite introverted, yet I have this deep love for spending time outdoors. Whenever I can, I seek out nature—it recharges my spirit in ways I can’t explain. Life is too short not to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us, and being outside gives me the peace and inspiration I need to thrive both as a mom and in my career.

Can you share a story of a time when travel changed your perspective on life?

There was a time when I felt really trapped while living in the Philippines. To break free from that feeling, I decided to hop on a plane and travel. That experience opened my eyes to how vast the world truly is. I realized I didn’t have to imprison myself in a life that wasn’t meant for me. It also made me see that having a child is not the end of the world; it can actually be the beginning of something beautiful.

Now, as I embrace my new life in Switzerland, I feel proud of the choices I’ve made. Yes, there are challenges, but I know I’m building a future filled with hope and possibility, not just for myself but for my son as well. This Thanksgiving, I’m filled with gratitude for the journey, the challenges, and the chance to grow every day.

Our Muse Donna

Donna’s story is a beautiful reminder that gratitude can transform our perspective, especially during the Thanksgiving season. As we celebrate Donna as our November Muse of the Month, we’re reminded of the importance of cherishing life’s journey, finding joy in everyday moments, and appreciating the people who inspire us. Thank you, Donna, for sharing your incredible journey with us and for being an essential part of The Muse Hotel family.

For those exploring the flexibility and freedom that remote work can offer, learning about virtual careers can be transformative. Donna’s experience reminds us of the power of teamwork and trust that reaches beyond borders, connecting our global team of colleagues across the Philippines, Africa, and the United States. Her journey is a testament to the strength that comes from connection and shared purpose, regardless of distance.

This month, we’re also shining a light on our local favorite bakery, Aspen Mills, in our November Local Business Spotlight. Their delicious treats make mornings at The Muse especially yummy—don’t miss out on the chance to try their fresh-baked goodies!
