What can you do with a dog in Palm Springs?

More than you'd guess, as long as you plan around the heat and a few rules.

• Dog parks. The city runs a leash-free dog park behind City Hall on Tahquitz Canyon Way, plus dog park areas at Demuth Park.

• Trails. Many trails around Palm Springs don't allow dogs, to protect the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep. Check the rules for a specific trail before you load up the car.

• The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Only service animals ride the tram, so plan that one as a people-only morning.
